If you’ve been marketing your online college programs, chances are you’re heavily invested in a key demographic. A demographic that includes millions of Americans who are already in the workforce… Adult learners.
And, of course, targeting this demographic has been widely successful for many online institutions (especially those we partner with) as adult learners are very keen on advancing in their careers by way of education…
And they demand the flexibility that online education can offer.
However, while the adult learner demo has been, and will remain, a key to online college enrollment success, the younger demo is now really taking notice of online college opportunities.
And…
You should pay attention to them… Because they’re paying attention to you!
Today, Conversion Media Group, a national leader in higher education enrollment initiatives, will share some new data with you that should have your enrollment department rejoicing.
Further, we’ll show you how we, CMG, can help you utilize this new data to turn the younger demo into new online college students.
But before we show you this…
Let’s show you the data.
A new poll from Champlain College Online of over 2,000 US adults, aged 18-24, who are currently enrolled in college or are considering enrolling, shows that nearly 90% of them would consider an online program.[1]
As you may know, this 18-24 demographic is the demo most often targeted by traditional brick-and-mortar colleges and universities, as they’ve just recently graduated high school.
But with 90% considering an online education… that really changes the game for schools like yours.
Interestingly, a similar poll was taken in 2023 showing 73% of the same demo would consider enrolling online. Meaning today, far more prospective college students could be interested in enrolling with you.
But it doesn’t end there.
87% of those polled said they believed an online degree can prepare them for a successful career, with the same number (87%) believing employers are more accepting of an online degree than they were in the past.
Now, like adult learners, this demographic is looking for affordability and flexibility, with 65% identifying affordability as the number one importance, and 73% saying flexibility was important too…
With 63% saying online college could allow them to learn “at their own pace.”
This sounds a lot like the adult-learner demographic, doesn’t it?
However, …
The younger generation, the 18-24 demographic, may be interested in earning degrees that the adult-leaner generation isn’t so excited to earn. Different generations, different wants, different needs.
So, what kinds of degrees are the younger generation looking at?
Not surprisingly, the poll shows video game development and marketing, technology and cybersecurity; modern fields of study, if you will.
So, if your school already has programs the younger demo is looking at, you’re in luck, because according to the pollster, one in seven of its newly enrolled students – online students that is – are 18-24 years old…
And represent the fastest growing demo at the school.
Meaning, with proper marketing, they could be among the fastest growing demo at your school too.
Which brings us to enrolling them.
We said earlier how we, CMG, can help you utilize this new data to turn the younger demo into new online college students.
How?
Well, we can talk to them. Physically. On the phone.
Yes, the actual telephone.

You see, we spend a lot of time generating and nurturing these leads before our first call with them. A lot of hard work and effort goes into discovery and qualification, before we know they’re truly interested in enrolling…
Before we hand them off to you.
